A FUN & FREE weekend festival for kids ages five to 12
Harbourfront Centre presents HarbourKIDS: Harvest, a FREE three-day festival from October 9th-11th, celebrating the harvest season. Families are invited to visit Toronto’s downtown waterfront to discover the relationship between the environment and the food we eat through a wide range of performances and activities.
To celebrate the season of harvest and Thanksgiving, kids can create their own musical instruments at the Kitchenband Hootenanny to play along with The Good Lovelies, make animal noses and jack o’lantern buttons to take home, construct a dream barn out of LEGO® and help build the Tree of Gratitude. Visitors can meet farmers from Ontario’s Greenbelt and purchase seasonal produce, see and feel different kinds of whole grains with The Grain Guy, discover a game based on the 100-Mile Diet with Garden Jane and explore the harvest season, both urban and rural, through an interactive art exhibit called Grow, Gather, Harvest. To honour our roots and keep traditions alive as we move into the future, families can listen to traditional harvest stories from Africa and Haiti with Djennie Laguerre or play old-fashioned outdoor games at the Natrel® Harvest Challenge. New practices and old traditions come together at HarbourKIDS: Harvest to inform a better and more sustainable future.
HarbourKIDS is Harbourfront Centre’s free family programme designed for kids from five to 12 years old, with three free weekend festivals each year. Stay tuned for HarbourKIDS: SK8, December’s annual family festival all about skating and urban culture. May 2011 will bring the exciting HarbourKIDS: CIRCUS back to town!
