Ontario Philharmonic

Since its founding in 1957, the Ontario Philharmonic (formerly the Oshawa Durham Symphony Orchestra) has established itself as the leading performing arts institution of Durham Region. Based in Oshawa since its inception, it has become one of the most highly respected regional orchestras in Ontario and in Canada in the course of its history – the symbol of excellence and cultural ambassador of the Regional Municipality of Durham. The OP is the only professional orchestra serving the entire Durham Region and is an important contributor to its quality of life. Numerous devoted patrons attend the performances at each concert season and thousands of children attend its annual Youth Concerts, providing an important educational service to the community's youth. The OP is comprised of approximately seventy-five professional musicians. Although the great symphonic and choral/symphonic repertoire is its main field, the OP's programs reflect a wide variety of styles such as light classical, pop music, jazz and music of the world in order to attract all audiences – including members from diverse cultures as well as young people who may not yet have encountered classical music.
