Argentina | 06: Photography
Presented by: blue igloo - Cool things for your home.
The stark and desolate landscapes pictured in this series are from a land once populated by the Incas, and long before them by other ancient civilizations.
These are the Andes of Northwest Argentina in the provinces of Jujuy and Salta, and running to the very tip of the continent in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego.
Driving along the relentless gravel roads of the northwest, with a plume of dust in your wake, you may go for an hour without seeing another car, but you will encounter shepherd boys, herders on bicycles, alpacas, wild horses, caravans of llamas, the ruins of gigantic ancient cities, and deserted cemeteries.
These routes have been travelled for the past 10,000 years, carrying people, trade and ideas from the high Andean lands to the plains. Moving along these roads, crossing passes at 4000m, between scorching sun and treacherous snowsqualls, you can’t help but wonder what on earth you are doing here – did you leave somewhere behind, or are you on the way back home?
