(im)parting: A Night of Collected Performance Art
Presented by: YYZ Artists' Outlet
Nine young artists come together to create a night of performance art.
Imparting: to bestow, to make, to pass on. Performance art always leaves a trace behind. Be it a token given to the audience by the artist, an installation remaining in the space, or an impression; something is imparted to the observer. From 7 to 10pm on Saturday April 28, at YYZ Artists’ Outlet and Cinecycle, audiences are invited to experience a gathering of performance artists whose diversity is mirrored by the joining of two contrasting environments: the white walls of YYZ and the eclectic atmosphere of Cinecycle.
ARTISTS’ BIOS
Katrina Pruss explores the subjective experience of the social and sensory world, as well as the externalization of personal experience in her performance work. Pruss attempts to capture the essence that exists within the spaces of individualized realities.
Hyun-Joo Liya Choi is a multidisciplinary artist whose work often explores the issues of identity, displacement and alienation. The notion of language is crucial in Choi’s performances, where the external and internal movements of the body and mind result in provokingly sensory experiences.
Mahan Javadi's work often references the value and conditions of existence. Using a variety of mediums and processes, he searches for the unlikely limits of existence. Javadi's performances are often endurance-based, both physically and mentally.
Leila Gajusingh is an interdisciplinary artist working with concepts of perception and cognition.
Aidan Cowling is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist. He hopes to one day be raised by wolves.
Mira Berlin is an interdisciplinary artist whose focus is primarily on the psychological relationship between beings and their environment. Through a variety of mediums, Berlin attempts to speak about the covert cultural taboos that underscore social interaction.
Anisa Misaljevic is a performance artist who explores issues of the body and challenges the boundaries of representation.
Natasha Bailey and Danielle Williams are two interdisciplinary artists who deal with the issues of trauma theory in their work.
The artists and organizers thank YYZ Artists’ Outlet and Cinecycle for hosting this event.
