640 480

640 480 (six-forty four-eighty) video collective was conceived in April 2001 by a group of students as a platform for creating new and critically relevant video works, while supporting each other as emerging artists. The group creates collaborative video and installation work that deals with the nature and value of video as a contemporary medium. Diverse in character but unified in presentation, 640 480 aims to make smart and accessible work that reaches beyond the sphere of the established art audience - aside from gallery exhibitions, the collective has also done online projects, ‘video’ in print' and musical collaborations. 640 480 is also committed to curating projects and programming the work of other video artists. The group is based in Toronto but now has members also living in New York City, Syracuse, Washington DC and London, UK. All members are graduates of the University of Toronto’s Visual Studies program. 640 x 480 is the resolution and viewing size at which television and video monitors are generally set.
