THEATRE IN THE RED FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Seeing Red: Debut of New Canadian Theatre Company Prepare for the All New, All Canadian debut of Theatre in the Red’s “Come Tumbling Down” Toronto, Ontario 04/11/09 –After two successful fundraisers, Theatre in the Red begins rehearsals on a new play by Blain Watters. Inspired by their collective drive to nurture Canadian talent and fueled by deep seated passion for theatre, the members of Theatre in the Red have come together to present a tale of deception, intrigue, danger and unexpected romance. The story begins unassumingly: Jack and Jill go out on a blind date. As the story unfolds, Jack learns that Jill comes with baggage that is more than he bargained for. With original music by Vancouver artist Joanna Chapman-Smith, “Come Tumbling Down” features emerging artists Julian DeZotti as John, Nawa Nicole Simon as Jill and Blain Watters, the writer himself as Jack. Making his directing debut, Tim Chisholm aims to present a story that captivates on different levels, using theatre itself as a character: Is Jill a spy? Does she simply deceive from beginning to end? Or do her emotions get tangled up in the task at hand? And what is her relationship with the mysterious and dangerous John who “drops by” unannounced on a regular basis? Its members consist of Tim Chisholm (Artistic Director), Kearsten Lyon (Producer), Daina Valiulis (Co-Artistic Producer), Blain Watters (Playwrite-in-Residence/Website Coordinator), Sandra Cryjenica (Production Manager) and Trevor Jablonowski (Assistant Artistic Director). Having gone to school together at the University College Drama Program at U of T and the York Theatre Program, this collective has worked with some of Canada’s most well respected theatre practitioners including Ken Gass, Kate Lynch, Maja Ardal, Kate Henning, and Michael Greyeyes. Blain Watters recently completed his Masters degree in playwriting under such artists as Judith Thompson, Micheal Healey and Djanet Sears. We are committed to presenting Blain’s piece to the Canadian audience, as well as working with developing playwrights in the future to ignite a passion for theatre, particularly among younger theatregoers.
