New Zealand String Quartet
Presented by: Mooredale Concerts
Mooredale Concerts welcomes New Zealands' leading string quartet
The Quartet – sought after for its imaginative and varied programming as much as for its revelatory interpretations. An unusual feature of the Quartet’s performance style is that the players stand, with the cellist seated on a special platform, “giving a tremendous freedom and energy to the music's natural movement” (Classics Today).
Mooredale Concerts’ Artistic Director Anton Kuerti describes the Quartet’s Toronto program as “featuring Haydn’s Lark Quartet, in which the bird’s song is emulated in an exotic and witty manner. Bartok’s turbulent fourth quartet follows – a work that is tightly knit, using a great deal of canonic imitation. The program concludes with Beethoven’s C sharp minor quartet, Op. 131, a luminous, thrilling work, which was Beethoven’s own favorite among his famous last five quartets.”
