Presented by: Design Exchange
Lecture Series as part of our current Play>Nation exhibit at the Design Exchange until October 10th
Canoes are not unlike people in that they need both a skin and a framework to be useful. John Summers will explore some of the ways that canoes have been constructed using examples from the museum’s outstanding collection of more than six hundred paddled watercraft. In so doing, he will consider how the transitions and differences between these methods have been motivated by culture, style, technics, materials and the exigencies of production.
