mmmmmm...POP!
Presented by: Artists' Network of Riverdale

Mmmmmm....Pop! explores the themes of sensuality and sexuality through the material realities of every day life and popular culture - Pop Art - where every day and mass produced images are as significant as the unique, and celebrated by our consumer society.

A glimpse, a glance, a look. The look that can stir the imagination of desire from the depths of your heart or other regions. The coyness conveyed by a twinkle in the eye or a wry smile. Like smoke slowly twisting and spiraling into a darkened room, sometimes giving the illusion of solidity at others only vapours, the sensual is conveyed with the wit of Elizabethan innuendo. The language of sensuality and sexuality has its subtleties and euphemisms, veiling true desire.

Or have we lost the subtleties of that innocence and the art of being coy to that of the bold and overt gesture? Have we become desensitized to the innuendo, the veiled suggestion of language and action, by the bombardment of overt sexuality in our every day lives? Has the intrigue of the sensual and the imagination of desire been subverted by the graphic and explicit? Mmmmmm....Pop! explores the themes of sensuality and sexuality through the material realities of every day life and popular culture - Pop Art - where every day and mass produced images are as significant as the unique, and celebrated by our consumer society. The challenge is in the combining of a substantive theme that is dependent on making a suggestion with an artistic genre that is know to be explicit and clear in intention.
