Thrillers and Chillers up on the Big Screen
Programme 2 of 7 double feature presentations
Journey into Fear 1943 dir. Norman Foster
with Orson Welles, Joseph Cotton, Dolores Del Rio
With Nazi agents closing in on him, a US engineer attempts to throw off pursuit by fleeing on board ship only to find out that they made it on as well. Taut, well made thriller.
5 Fingers 1952 dir. Joseph Mankeiwicz with James Mason, Danielle Darrieux
The brainy, overly ambitious valet of the British ambassador to Turkey finances his "early" retirement plan by selling secrets to the Nazis. Betrayal and counter-betrayal builds to a climax of delicious irony. Only of the best Hitchcock films he never made.
