METAMORPHOSIS
Presented by: Leonardo Gallery

Artists Anne Barkley and Rita Vindedzis, inspired by the natural world, give a fresh meaning to painting.

Leonardo Galleries presents Metamorphosis, where painters Anne Barkley and Rita Vindedzis interpret transformation and play with convention. The new exhibit opens with a reception on Thursday, June 4 at 7:00 p.m., when both artists will be in attendance.

Anne Barkley's series experiments with standard art norms, representation and architecture with a new sense of freedom. Using oil, anticipating the vitality of viewer imagination, her paintings capture the complexity of natural abstract shapes and beautiful colours.

Barkley, who enjoys living on a farm near Ottawa and is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists, states, “The pleasure and satisfaction of painting is first and always in making the art; the physical and emotional intensity required to get to that place where thought stops and intuition has free rein. At present some of my tools are emotion, strength, harmony, freedom, colour, shape, texture, value, edges and space, repetition with variety, movement and rhythm.”

Rita Vindedzis’ newest work, a total departure from her known landscapes, incorporates collage elements such as hand made stamps and stencils, gel transfers and photo copies of her own digital photography. The pieces reflect her use of colour, shape and texture and showcase her freshly discovered eclectic vision.

Vindedzis, whose art has appeared on national television programs including Divine Design, CityLine and Designer Guys, explains, “These paintings are an abstracted impression of the wonder of nature. Finding the sacred in the ordinary. The pattern of clouds in the sky, tree bark or the complex patterns in a pile of leaves. Sunlight glistening on water. This metamorphosis has taken place over many months and I feel that I've shed layers of myself in the process.”
