Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie proudly presents AllOneWord, a new evening of dance works from acclaimed Canadian choreographer James Kudelka as part of Harbourfront Centre’s NextSteps, February 10-12, 2011 at Enwave Theatre.
The evening is comprised of six works – 3 of them world premieres - from Kudelka’s “SEE Series,” a series of choreographies that employs a different number of dancers in each piece, with no thematic movement connecting the work. All the works in the “SEE series” are set to and inspired by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber’s Guardian Angel Sonata.
In AllOneWord, each of the six works will have a different musical arrangement of Biber’s beautiful Sonata for unaccompanied violin, directed and conceived by renowned composer and media artist John Oswald.
- SEE #1: A solo created for and performed by Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie co-Artistic Director Laurence Lemieux, originally premiered at the Jacobs Pillow Festival in 2007. A violinist accompanies the piece live on stage.
- SEE #4: A quintet originally created for the School of Toronto Dance Theatre students in 2009, performed by CLC dancers Rhonda Baker, Valerie Calam, Luke Garwood, Graham McKelvie and Christianne Ullmark.
- SEE #3: A Canadian premiere ballet solo performed by National Ballet of Canada dancer James Leja, originally created for Ohio’s BalletMet Columbus in 2008. A violinist accompanies the piece live on stage.
- SEE #7: The world premiere of a duet for National Ballet of Canada principal dancer Xiao Nan Yu and her former partner Ryan Boorne who retired from the NBOC in 2007, created especially for them.
- SEE #8: The world premiere of a group piece for Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie danced by Rhonda Baker, Ryan Boorne, Valerie Calam, Luke Garwood, Laurence Lemieux, Graham McKelvie and Christianne Ullmark, and inspired by Kudelka’s secret passion for murder mysteries and courtroom dramas (particularly the TV series Law and Order).
- SEE #6: The world premiere of a solo performed by Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie co-Artistic Director Bill Coleman.
