Meredith Bingham’s work springs from the intersection of the intuitive, the irrational and the accidental. Petroglyph reflects Ila Kellermann’s life-long interest in the motifs and symbolism of petroglyph sites, and her ardent respect for the natural world.

Meredith builds up and breaks down colour and form until it takes on meaning and feels complete. It then stands as a stimulus; as an object of interest in its own right, and not as a representation of anything else.

Ila's documents, interprets and celebrates petroglyph imagery, reaffirming the bond between these directional markers and the environment. Thus, her work invites the observer to partner in symbolism and stewardship. Ila is an Expressionist, using a vibrant palette. Layers of impasto are pierced with incised lines until a framework of shape and form emerges. Her paintings are stories of moments of hope, intertwined with cultural and personal archetypes.
