Barry Douglas played on this series in March 1990, while still basking in the glory of his 1986 Tchaikovsky Competion win. Since then he has built an enduring international career as orchestral soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, conductor and festival director.

The '07-08 season included a US tour with his chamber orchestra, Camerata Ireland, which he founded in 2001; he completed his recording of the complete cycle of Beethoven piano concertos with his ensemble on Satirino Records in the Fall 2007. Barry Douglas make his home in Paris and in Lurgan, Ireland, with his wife and 3 young children.

The Los Angeles Times praised his "bio, ease, and a confident sense of musicality"; The London Time (UK) notes his " volatile energy and spiky articulation."
