The Secret Mind of Collectors: 3 Part Film Series Presented by:Royal Ontario Museum
A recurring theme of cinema, as of civilization, has been acquisition and collection.
Heroes and villains have followed the models of our greatest museum curators, amassing treasures, cataloguing their finds, and keeping them safe. Sometimes the activity of collecting is professional. But sometimes it is done by passionate or extremely neurotic amateurs who only resolve their concerns when they control, possess, and dominate what they love. Hosted by film lecturer Murray Pomerance, this series examines collectors and collecting from three points of view. Each evening will be highlighted by a special feature speaker.
October 20: How to Steal a Million (1966), William Wyler
Feature speaker Aaron Milrad is counsel to Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP, a Canadian national law firm, where he specializes in services for clients in the visual, performing and literary arts. He collects postwar and contemporary paintings, photography, sculpture and ceramics.
October 27: The Collector (1965), William Wyler
Feature speaker Bill Jamieson is an antique tribal art collector and dealer. In 1998, he purchased Canada's oldest museum, the Niagara Falls Museum, established in 1827. One of its mummies was discovered to be Ramesses I, who has since been returned to Egypt. www.jamiesontribalart.com

Feature speaker, Susan Scott insists that collecting is not a disease, but a tendency. She has been writing about antiques and collectibles for more than 20 years and her personal gatherings have included Canadian glass, Suzie Cooper dishes, Royal Winton chintz, Bakelite bracelets and vintage silver charms.
