Instructor: Barbara Gilbert (with a representative from the Toronto Arts Council)
Course overview:
In the first session, a representative from the TAC will provide information on the granting process in general; the jury process; helpful hints; and answer questions. In the remaining sessions, Ms. Gilbert will discuss information such as: effective writing and editing skills; how to write about art; application requirements; the importance of quality documentation; and common mistakes. Opportunities to share an in-progress application with the class will allow for constructive criticism. This class concludes shortly before the deadlines for the OAC’s grants: Visual Artists: Emerging and Grants to Media Artists: Emerging; and the Canada Council’s Assistance to Visual Artists: Project Grants. This is a great opportunity to perfect your application!

Instructor Bio:
Barbara Gilbert is a Toronto-based visual artist, art educator and art writer who has exhibited in Canada, Europe and Australia. Her work has also been published in Carte Blanche (2006). Barbara is currently employed as the Project Coordinator at OAAG, and is the proprietor of Cultureshots, a business providing photo-documentation services for artists (www.cultureshots.com)
