We play military style marches and participate in parades in the Toronto and the surrounding area. We have travelled to the United States as well as three trips to Northern Ireland and a trip to Scotland. It was there the band formed a connection with the Coleraine Fife & Drum band, who visited us in Canada in 1984. The band was founded in 1908 by a group of Irish immigrants from the County of Londonderry. From its humble beginnings in a chicken coop at 36 St. David’s Street, in the Parliament & Dundas area of Toronto, it has changed from a fife & drum band to a six part harmony flute band. Started as the Sons of Derry, the band went through a revival in the late 60s and in 1970 re-emerged. The name was shortened later on in the 70s, with the addition of women the ‘Sons of ’ part was dropped making the band the Derry Flute Band.
