Hide & Seek
Presented by: LandymoreKeith Contemporary Art

Hide & Seek features artworks that depict familial images from the artists’ personal history or from the archetypical collective past. Homes, living quarters and family members are depicted in unnatural pinks, reds and blues with compositions referencing snap shots or commissioned portraits.

The ominous yet intimate scenes suggest a theme of revisitation: a psychological or literal exploration into an earlier period to bring to light the source of current events. Each piece places the viewer in a position of an investigator picking up visual clues to unlock mysteries of the past.

The exhibition will features works by two artists represented at LandymoreKeith Contemporary Art, Christine Cheung and Michael Lewis, as well as other select artists. Christine Cheung is a Calgary-based artist, adept at challenging the boundaries between representational and abstract painting. She completed her MFA at Nova Scotia College of Art & Design and has a forthcoming solo exhibition at Truck Artist-Run Centre in Calgary. Michael Lewis was educated at the Ontario College of Art and has exhibited extensively throughout Canada. His work is currently featured in the touring exhibition Logotopia curated by Sascha Hasting. The exhibition will also feature the work of guest artists including Colin Thomson and Scott Everingham.

The opening reception will take place on July 5 from 6 pm - 9 pm
