Charles Hackbarth and Yvonne Singer Presented by: Not Available
Loop Gallery presents exhibitions by its members Charles Hackbarth entitled Topography of Ooze and Yvonne Singer entitled Signs of Life; an intimate portrait of someone I don't know.
Reception: Saturday May 3, 2008
Charles Hackbarth - Topography of Ooze
Semi-abstract paintings that attempt to morph various types of mapping; biological mapping, cartography, satellite imagery, into a cohesive manifestation of barely contained chaos. Continents shift, seed pods erupt and launch their bounty into the wind, water and blood flows in all directions. A universe of multi-dimensional unfolding emerges from the ooze of vibrantly painted mudscapes.
Yvonne Singer - Signs of Life; an intimate portrait of someone I don't know
Investigating political and personal markers of identity through language, travel documents, identity papers and personal artifacts. The exhibition asks the questions, How do we really know someone, even those who are closest to us? What clues are revealed about an identity by the material evidence left behind? The travel documents in the exhibition highlight our current debates about individual rights and governments' concerns about border security.
