Drawings and video instillations Lynn Hutchinson. Expanding on the phenomenon of madness from individual to state, and the resulting impulsion to crisis and redemption, metanoia is an exploration of outrages: rivers of fabric sewn by children, intensive surveillance, poisoned roses that fly from the hands of workers in Colombia to the vases of Toronto, inverted landscapes, women working in walled compounds with shreds of sky above them, floods that tear at highways and bury hog feedlots, immigrant women who clean Canadians’ kitchens and raise their children.

A visual art/video installation project which is a continuation of Sau Wai Tai’s installation piece as part of Mayworks’ Bookends last year. Hands off looks at situations that many immigrants, particularly women of colour, face as a result of globalized economies including chronic unemployment, income inequities, and deteriorating health. Over 15 immigrant women were invited to participate in workshops to tell their stories about living and working in Canada, through video footage and casting their hands.
