Expanding on the phenomenon of madness from individual to state, and the resulting impulsion to crisis and redemption, metanoia is an exploration of outrages: rivers of fabric sewn by children, intensive surveillance, poisoned roses that fly from the hands of workers in Colombia to the vases of Toronto, inverted landscapes, women working in walled compounds with shreds of sky above them, floods that tear at highways and bury hog feedlots, immigrant women who clean Canadians’ kitchens and raise their children.
