Acclaimed pianist/composer Adrean Farrugia introduces new ensemble Riochet.
"A fine touch, sophisticated harmonies.with elements of abandon and humour"
-Larry Applebaum, Jazz Times Magazine.
Since his arrival on the Toronto jazz scene, Adrean Farrugia has made a name for himself as one of Canada's most exciting, innovative pianists. Although much in demand as a sideman, the release of his 2006 debut, Adrean Farrugia v 1.0: Live at the Senator, established him as a first-rate band leader and writer, and gained attention for his "forceful, percussive style, fast developing ideas and a wide-ranging composer's imagination." (Geoff Chapman, Toronto Star).
Now, armed with brand new music, and collaborating with some of Canada's finest jazz musicians, Farrugia is proud to announce his brand-new project, Ricochet, which will make its debut at Toronto's Rex Hotel Jazz and Blues Bar (194 Queen St. West.) on Friday, May 9, 2008. This exciting new ensemble, which will be recording an album later this year, features some of Canada's most highly-respected musicians - Farrugia is joined by Kevin Turcotte(trumpet), Andrew Downing (bass), and Anthony Michelli (drums).
To Farrugia, the band feels aptly named. "I like the idea that musicians create music and send it out into the world until it finds another soul to come into contact with. Once that music bounces off of you, you're left changed. I think of this as a sort of ricochet effect."
