Fugitive Sources: Finding Clues to our African-Canadian Past
Presented by: Not Available

An illustrated talk by 2007 Governor General’s Award winner, Dr. Karolyn Smardz Frost

Dr. Karolyn Smardz Frost is the author of I’ve Got a Home in Gloryland: A Lost Tale of the Underground Railroad. This book presents the fascinating story of two fugitive slaves who escaped to Canada via the Underground Railroad in 1833. Dr. Smardz Frost conducted more than 20 years of research to write her book, and she visited many archives to find sources of information about the history of Black people in Canada.

The evening will begin with Dr. Smardz Frost’s presentation about the researching of her book. Then host Garvia Bailey, of the CBC, will have an informal discussion with her, followed by an audience question and answer session.
