Formed in August 2003 by Chris Reynolds and Kate Meehan, Crate Productions exists to create relevant and exciting theatre, providing opportunities for artists to explore. The company is fascinated by the space that surrounds us, and endeavors to discover the relationship between space and its occupants, both performers and audience. Crate seeks to engage non-traditional audiences in alternative venues. Crate's inaugural show was the 2004 sold-out hit Tape, extended four times during its Dora Award-nominated run in a hotel room at the Gladstone, Toronto's oldest continually operating hotel. Produced in 2005, Crate's second show was the critically acclaimed Canadian professional premier of Blackbird, presented each night in an abandoned apartment at Yonge and Gerrard Streets in downtown Toronto.
