The School of Toronto Dance Theatre was established in 1968 and has been under the Artistic Direction of Patricia Fraser since 1993. For more than thirty years, the School has been training and educating modern dance artists who have been inspired by the passion and physical power of the human body in motion. Modern dance is an art form of kinetic expression which both represents and reflects back to us our contemporary world. It can provoke joy and wonder, sadness and despair, humour and delight, deep feelings of passion and spiritual awareness. It is an art form which can keep us profoundly in touch with others, with our environment and with ourselves. Through its dedication to excellence in the art form, The School of Toronto Dance Theatre is at the forefront of training in modern dance in Canada. The School is devoted to providing a broad spectrum of movement classes for the serious dance artist and for the community. It is comprised of four divisions: the full-time, three-year Professional Training Program (PTP), providing training to students intent on a career in modern dance; the General School, a program of modern dance and exercise classes for the recreational dancer; the Young Dancers' Program for youth from ages 3 to 16; and the Summer School, an intensive month-long program for serious students and young professionals. The School of Toronto Dance Theatre is housed in a renovated church in Toronto's Cabbagetown (together with Toronto Dance Theatre). This historic church is an excellent location for professional dance training. The church houses three dance studios, the Winchester Street Theatre (with a seating capacity of 115), shower facilities, saunas, and administrative offices. Sharing these facilities with Toronto Dance Theatre strengthens the important ties between the School and the Company. The City of Toronto is one of Canada's and North America's leading cultural centres, and offers an endless variety of artistic events. While living in Toronto, students can experience theatre productions, dance events, and international cultural festivals. Toronto also offers many diverse communities in which students can reside safely, establish new friendships, and involve themselves socially. Overall, Toronto is a wonderful place for students to develop personally and artistically. Postal address Phone:
