The Gladstone Hotel is the oldest continuously operating hotel in Toronto. Susanna Robinson commissioned architect George Miller, who also designed Massey Hall, to build the Gladstone in 1889. The hotel is gradually being restored to reflect the building’s architectural history and looks forward to opening its newly renovated rooms to guests in May/June 2005. The Gladstone has three bars: The Melody bar (voted “Best Karaoke Bar” four years running by Now magazine readers), the Art Bar and the Gladstone Ballroom. From cabaret performances to film screenings, book launches to wedding parties the Gladstone hosts events for a vast range of artists and community groups.
